2016 OUR ORIGIN

While serving at my church The Journey, a man caught my eye. I tried to catch him on his way out, but I wasn't able to. On my way home, I saw him and a friend on the side of the road and I pulled over. I found out they were homeless and just trying to get back on their feet. We prayed with them, and a few hours later, we were back with food and necessities.

A few weeks later I met with the Outreach Ministry Team at The Journey and I told them of this idea to have a garden that could feed those who needed it most. The first try at the garden was a failure, no volunteers and all my crops died. At the time I wanted to give up, but knew I owed it to myself and The Journey to make this work. In the following months, we worked on growing and harvesting winter vegetables, some in the gardens and some from my basement with grow lights. This was our humble beginnings!

2017 Early Steps

2017 marked the beginning of Planting to Feed’s impact on the community. What started as a small community meal quickly grew into new partnerships, expanded service locations, and our first holiday meal. That same year, we began a partnership with the Delaware Center for Homeless Vets, hosting small BBQs at one of their homes to serve and support local veterans, laying the foundation for the growth and impact that followed.

2018 Growth and Momentum

2018 marked a major milestone for Planting to Feed as we officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. This achievement strengthened our foundation and allowed us to expand partnerships, grow community programs, and increase our impact across the communities we serve, setting the stage for continued service in the years ahead.

2019 Sustainability

In 2019, Planting to Feed continued to grow while strengthening our commitment to sustainability and community care. We made the switch to environmentally friendly products to do our part in reducing, reusing, and recycling, expanded our reach with a second location, and, with the support of our donors, provided holiday meals to families in need. By the end of the year, we had served over 5,000 meals, reflecting our growing impact across the communities we serve.

2020 Resilience and Community

In 2020, we continued to grow food and provide resources throughout the challenges of the pandemic, ensuring support reached the community as it became available. By December, we launched the first Community Fridge in the state of Delaware, offering 24/7 access to quality food, and welcomed HoneyBee Seasonal Kitchen & Market as our first Friend of the P2F Fridge.
